783,938. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Nov. 7, 1955 [Dec. 6, 1954], No. 31775/55. Class 7(6) [Also in Group XXXI] In a motor vehicle engine exhaust control having a hand lever 4 controlling exhaust braking, interconnected with the vehicle accelerator and clutch pedal linkages whereby the hand lever shuts off the engine fuel supply on exhaust braking and depression of the accelerator or clutch pedal first cancels the exhaust braking, an adjustable stop 11 arrests the hand lever 4 in its "off" position, adjustment of the stop being effective to alter the fuel supply for idling when exhaust braking is cancelled. As shown the hand lever 4 is disposed beneath the steering wheel 3 and connected by a transmission including a stirrup 12 to a throttle valve 5 in the exhaust pipe 6, the arrangement being such that movement of the lever 4 to its braking position can be cancelled by initial depression of either the accelerator pedal G or clutch pedal K. The hand lever 4 is carried by a rod 2 supported in a bracket 7 carried by a column 1 surrounding the steering shaft 8, the bracket carrying a lug 9 receiving a screw forming the stop 11 having a milled head 10. The lever 4 engages the stop 11 when the exhaust brake is inoperative, and, as the stirrup 12 limits the movement of the accelerator linkage when the pedal G is released, movement of the screw in the bracket adjusts the engine idling position.
