Class 79(5) In means for controlling vehicle brakes and an engine throttle having a pedal controlled valve 10 in which release of the pedal 11 closes the throttle and applies the brakes, the release position of the pedal can be adjusted to give any desired degree of braking. As shown in Fig. 1, the pedal 11 is pivoted at 14 and is connected at 15 to a rod 12 actuating the valve 10 for the brakes and engine throttle of a vehicle as described in the parent Specification. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the rod 12 is connected to the bottom end of the pedal. A unit 13 determines the release position and comprises a sleeve 17, Fig. 3, secured to the rod 12 between a shoulder 19 and a nut 20, the sleeve being enclosed by an externally threaded housing 21 and a spring 25 being provided between washers 26, 27 adapted to abut shoulders on the' housing and sleeve. The housing 21 is adjustably locked by means of nuts 23, 24 to a fixed transverse member 22 of the vehicle, and by longitudinal adjustment of the housing relative to the member 22 the position of rest is determined. In addition to the control of the throttle valve of a petrol engine the invention is stated to be applicable to a diesel engine pump control and an electrically driven vehicle controller.
