Abstract

[Also in Division B7] Hand-operable controls for a disabled driver include a hand lever 10 which is connected to the brake pedal 19 of a motor vehicle by a linkage including a spring-loaded toggle arrangement for sustaining brake application once the toggle has been over-centred by full application of the brake. The hand lever 10 is secured to a spindle 13 carrying an arm 14 coupled by an adjustable rod 21 incorporating a telescopic portion 22 compressible against a spring 23 to an arm 20 on a spindle 16 connected by an arm 18 to the brake pedal 19. Upon full application of the brake by the lever 10 the spring 23 is compressed as the joint between the arm 14 and the rod 21 passes overcentre and expands to retain the brake full on.
