A fluid pressure operated braking apparatus, for motor vehicles, comprising a fluid pressure diaphragm actuator mounted on the back plate 9 for actuation of shoe-operating wedge 12 includes a pull type linkage 15 by which the wedge may be operated by manual means, the linkage comprising telescopically movable components 10, 11, whereby power actuation of the brake does not impart movement to the said manual means. Initial setting up of the brake is accomplished by adjusting the nut 13 connecting the parts 10, 11; to facilitate this the inner face of the head 17 of the rod 15 is shaped to engage and rotate the nut.
