Abstract

989,237. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd., and C. PRESS. March 23, 1962, No. 11127/62. Heading F2E. A disc brake comprises a rotatable disc 12, a fixed torque taking member 13, a pair of springy pressure members 11, 11A extending chordally across the disc and associated at one end with the member 13, the pressure members 11, 11A being capable of springy movement towards and away from the disc, friction pads 14, 15 and a mechanism to effect frictional engagement of the pads with the disc. As shown the pads 14, 15 are bonded or otherwise secured to backing plates 16, 17 which are detachably located on the pressure members 11, 11A by sheet metal brackets 18. A yoke 19 secured to a flange 20 bolted to the pressure member 11 straddles the disc and bears through a thrust member 23 against a piston slidable within a fluid-pressure cylinder 21 which is bolted to the pressure member 11A. The piston may be provided with a wear-adjustment device.
