Abstract

734,058. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.GES. May 13, 1953 [May 13, 1952], No. 13390/53. Class 7(6). [Also in Group XXXI] A throttle valve k in the exhaust pipe which may be closed manually by a lever h to cause engine braking is operatively connected to the clutch pedal K and to the accelerator control rod c so that the fuel or fuel-air mixture supply is cut off when the valve k is closed, the connection being such that depression of the clutch or accelerater pedals during exhaust throttling first opens the valve k, restores the fuel or fuelair mixture supply, and finally, in the case of the clutch pedal, opens the clutch. The valve k is connected by a link l to a lever a which is connected by a rod b having a resilient portion q to the clutch pedal K and has an upstanding end co-operating with stops g, f, ontheaccelerater rod c which operates the fuel or fuel-air mixture control lever o through a lost-motion slot. An idling stop d co-operating with a stop e on the rod c is pivoted and adjusted by a cable through a resilient connection n. When the valve k is closed for braking, the lever a contacts the stop f and moves the accelerater rod c to override the idling stop d and cut off the fuel or mixture supply. Depression of the clutch pedal K while the valve k is closed first opens the valve k and then moves the accelerater rod c to restore the fuel supply before the clutch is opened. Similarly, depression of the accelerater pedal when the valve k is closed causes opening of the valve k before the fuel supply is restored. If the engine drives a vehicle drawing a trailer, a brake valve-p for the trailer can be operated from the lever a simultaneously with the initiation of engine braking.
