Abstract

783,340. Rotary compressors. LEAD WOOL CO., Ltd., and BALL, E. F. Sept. 26, 1955 [July 20, 1954; Oct. 25, 1954], Nos. 2341/57 and 2342/57. Divided out of 783,339. Class 110 (2). A rotary compressor as described in Specification 783,339 has an unloading valve 24 in the inlet, and means to maintain oil circulation in the unloaded state. When the compressed air in the receiver 36 reaches a predetermined pressure a valve 103 allows compressed air to be admitted through a port 89 in the valve 24 to the right of a piston 87 to force a valve 84 on to its seat 82 to close the air intake passage 81 against the action of a spring 86. The valve 84 may be closed manually by a wheel 98 so that the compressor can be started under no load. A relief valve 93 is opened by a projection 92 on a stem 85 of the valve 84, allowing air which bypasses the valve 84 through a passage 90 to be circulated through the compressor and returned from a port 102 in the separator through a port 91 and a passage 97 to the air intake 81, and distributing some pressure air through a port 95 to shaft seals and bearings, the small amount of oil still entrained in the air lubricating the bearings.
