Abstract

829,060. Compressors. FICHTEL & SACHS A. G. March 10, 1958 [March 30, 1957], No. 7633/58. Class 8(1). Unloading of a reciprocating piston compressor during starting is effected by by-passing the automatic inlet and delivery valves 10, 11 in a plate 9 located at the cylinder head through passages 14, 15, 16 connecting an inlet chamber 17 with the compression space 18 until driving shaft speed is sufficient to provide sufficient oil pressure to move a piston valve 19, 21 against a spring 23 and so close the by-pass 14, 15, 16. Oil from a reservoir 3 is forced through a helical groove 26 of the drive shaft 1 and is delivered down a duct 28 to the cylinder bore 13 of the valve 19. In a modification the by-pass is controlled by a ball valve capable of falling from its seat by gravity and of being reseated by a piston valve as described above.
