Abstract

780,408. Hose &c. couplings. NYBERG. C. E. J. March 6, 1956 [March 9, 1955], No. 6968/56. Class 99(1). In a coupling comprising a casing 7 and a tubular spigot 1 connected together by a relative axial movement and wherein the casing incorporates a ported valve 5 which is opened by the spigot, when the latter is inserted into the casing, and against the effect of the pressure of air or other fluid and a spring 8, the casing is provided with an internal flange 10 on to one side of which the valve seats when in the closed position, and an annular recess in which is located a sealing ring 11. The latter is arranged to move in such a way that when the spigot is inserted into the casing the ring is pressed between the end of the spigot and the walls of the recess. As shown, the valve, in the closed position, seats on a sealing ring 12, and the ring 11 engages a ring 14, shaped in cross-section, against which abuts a spring 13 lying in a groove in the flange 10. Balls 2 radially movable in holes in the casing are urged inwardly by a spring-loaded sleeve 3, slidable on the casing, and into an annular groove in the spigot thereby to couple the latter and the casing together.
