Abstract
779,320. Packaging. LEIGHTON, C. R., and BUCK, J. W. Nov. 25, 1955 [Dec. 9, 1954], No. 33819/55. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XV] A bag tying device wraps a length 5 of adhesive tape about the gathered bag top, the tape being fed from a roll 24 round a wheel 25 having notches 26 into which the bag top is introduced, movement of the wheel folding the tape prior to its being cut by a stationary knife 42. The wheel 25 is mounted on an arm 29 pivoted at 30 and is spring biased towards a tape free end holding spring member 47 which retains the tape across one of the notches 26. The wheel 25 has an internal cam surface with indexing notches 36 engageable by a roller 37. The bag top is twisted and thrust into a passage 31 in the frame and into the tape covered notch 26. It passes along the frame passage peeling the tape free end from the member 47 and wrapping it round itself. During this movement, the roller 37 has cleared the indexing notch, causing the wheel 25 to be moved away from the member 47. Finally the tied bag top enters a part 39 of the passage, the tape having been cut against the knife 42 and the bag is withdrawn downwards. The roller 37 has then entered another indexing notch 36 and the free end of the tape has been laid on the member 47.
