Apparatus for folding a projecting end of a wrap of sheet material applied around a generally rectangular package into end closure flaps over an end face of the package, including a folding shoe mounted on a support for pivotal movement over the end face of the package, the shoe having a curved operating face and a pair of coaxial rollers mounted on the shoe for movement therewith and located in front of a leading edge of face 6 and being axially spaced apart. The folding shoe 5 comprises a quadrant arm carrying cheek 6 and mounted on shaft 20 which oscillates. Pivoted at 27 on the arm 5 is a lever 26 having a roller 28 pressed by spring 29 on to a fixed cam edge 30 so that as the arm 5 oscillates, rollers 24, 25 on the lever 26 move along a linear path across the end face of the package 2. In operation the package 2 is moved by a ram along a platform past the shoes while they are in the position shown in Fig. 1, thus folding down the flaps 7 in Fig. 1a. The shoes are then swung out of the way of the package which is stationary while the longitudinal margins 1a of the wrapping are folded down on to the side of the package in any desired manner. The shoes then swing backwards so that the rollers 24, 25 and cheek 6 fold down the parts of the wrapper 1 which project beyond the end of the package 2, thus completing the package ready for sealing. The fixed cams 31 may be adjusted by a screw 32. For different heights of package, suitable spacing members may be used to separate the rollers 24, 25.
