Abstract

773,646. Welded joints. STEINMULLER GES., L. & C. Oct. 3, 1955 [Oct. 2, 1954], No. 28063/55. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] A pipe 1 is provided with an external flange and a larger diameter pipe 2 with an internal flange, which flanges are hooked over each other and joined together by forging, pressing or rolling operations. The pipe 1 is, for example, of austenitic material and the pipe 2 of ferritic material, the joined pipes forming a component for joining together pipes of austenitic and ferritic material by welding to the free ends of the component. After the flanges have been hooked together, the pipe 2 is reduced to the same diameter as the pipe 1, Fig. 3, a nose 5 preferably being provided on the pipe 1 to provide a smooth bore at the junction. The flanges are then forged, pressed or rolled to cause the materials thereof to flow together, the final diameter at the flange portions, Fig. 4, being approximately the same as the pipe diameters.
