Abstract

773,640. Hinged valves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 7, 1955 [Sept. 14, 1954], No. 25653/55. Class 135. A shut-off valve, more particularly for steam conduits, consists of a valve disc 8 having a ball and socket or other connection 17 permitting limited pivotal movement of the disc relative to a support member 9 which pivots about a spindle 10 and is connected by a link 32 to an actuating stem 31 by which the disc may be moved between the closed position in which it engages a seat 4 and the fully open position shown in which it is accommodated in a chamber 36 out of the flow path of the fluid and prevented from fluttering by engagement with a spring-loaded plunger 45. The stem 31 is operated by an hydraulic motor or other means. A by-pass passage interconnects the inlet and outlet sides of the valve and includes an orifice plate which determines the amount of continuous bleed through the by-pass. A valvecontrolled bleed to a condenser is also provided by the by-pass passage. The stem 31 passes through a bushing assembly 38 which may have a seal of the kind disclosed in Specification 611,691.
