Abstract
719,001. Valves. VOLPIN, A. S. Aug. 6, 1952; No. 19825/52. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXIV] A gate valve comprises a closure member of two parts 32, 33, Fig. 1, spring urged apart and s'idable between seats 30, 31, under the control of a handwheel 39 and stem 18. Each seat has a groove 44 adapted to be supplied with lubricating and sealing material from an associated reservoir 46 via passage 48 and a recess 49 in the closure member. The recess only joins passage 48 to groove 44 when the valve is closed. The material is pressurized by line inlet pressure acting on a piston 47 in each reservoir, the inlet pressure moving the appropriate part 32 or 33 off its seat against springs 35, to thereby leak into chamber 4 and thence have access to the pistons. The reservoirs are replenished, or additional material may be supplied through connections 50, Fig. 2, each communicating with an annular groove 43 in the seat and thence with passage 48. The provision of a reservoir connected to each seat caters for flow in either. direction through the valve. Specification 651,474 is referred to.
