Abstract

114,152. Huguenin, A. March 13, 1917, [Convention date]. Hinged valves; seats. - A valve comprises a pivoted disk 14 and an axially-movable tubular member 16 which is pressed against the disk 14, as shown, in the closed position. The tubular member is forced to this position or withdrawn for opening the valve by fluid pressures admitted to and discharged from opposite sides of a piston member 17 by pipes 18, 19. An annular gap i may be formed round the valve disk 14 so that, when the tubular member 16 is withdrawn, a preliminary flow is established; this flow balances the pressures on opposite sides of the valve, whereupon the disk 14 can be readily turned to its open pcsition by the operation of the lever arm 15 by hand or servo-motor. A second tubular member may be arranged to close down on the other side of the valve disk to provide a double closure.
