6269. Purser, A. March 13. Valves closing with rush of fluid; combinations of interdependent valves. - A plug cock particularly adapted for use with pneumatic apparatus is fitted internally with a piston valve adapted to close automatically when the pressure on the outlet side falls below that on the inlet side. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the piston valve 17<a> is closed by the inlet pressure admitted through a passage 19 acting on the underside of the piston 17<a> against the action of the outlet pressure, admitted through a passage 21, and a spring 12 acting on a piston 16<a>. When the piston valve is closed, it opens a passage 20, establishing a by-pass connexion between the inlet and outlet, so that the valve may open automatically when the outlet is closed or restricted. The lower end of the plug is closed by a plate 23, secured in position by a screwed ring 24. Modifications are described in which two piston closures are employed and the plug is inverted.
