Abstract

15,369. Carr, T. J., and Hope, F. July 20. Check valves; valves closing with r u s h of fluid.- Valves closing with rush of fluid so that the inlet and outlet ports are only connected through a small bypass are pressed open by means of springs contained within the casing. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the inlet and outlet ports are in line with the axis of the casing, and are formed in removable tubular pieces b provided with nipples c, d for connecting to the pipe system. The spindle r of the piston valve t is guided both above and below, and is pressed upward, so that the piston uncovers the inlet port f, by a spring n pressing against a plate m. When the pressure at the outlet port g is reduced, the inlet pressure entering through a port e closes the valve, and then communication is only maintained through a by-pass p in the valve, or a by-pass p controlled by a screw s in the valve casing. The lower connexion d may be made adjustable, and may be provided with a lock-nut and with a recess to receive a key, to facilitate adjustment of the spring.
