Abstract
10,369. Coxon, J., and Coxon, J. May 5. Lift valves; check valves; valves closing with rush of fluid ; self-closing valves; actuating valves and cocks. -Relates to isolating and emergency stop valves, which close automatically on reduction of the outlet or inlet pressure and are adapted to be closed from a distance, as described in Specifications No. 14,704, A.D. 1898, No. 2565, A.D. 1900, and No. 5116, A.D. 1902. The valve a works between two faces b, c. The upper end of the spindle carries a piston m which works in a steam cylinder n. Steam is admitted at w through a pipe connected to the valve box d and controlled by a valve adapted to be operated electrically, by hand, by boiler pressure, or by any of the devices described in the Specifications quoted above. A screwed spindle j, by bearing upon the piston, may be used to close positively the valve. As an emergency valve, it is closed on its upper seat c if the pressure in the outlet f, or in the steam cylinder n, decreases. As an isolating-valve for a boiler, if the pressure on the inlet side falls below that on the outlet side, the valve automatically closes on to the lower seat a. If for this purpose alone, the upper seat may be dispensed with.
