770,204. Pipe joints. BAIER, W. July 20, 1954 [July 20, 1953], No. 21155/54. Class 99(1) In a pipe union for unmachined pipe ends comprising a sleeve 10 fitted over the pipe ends R and two closure members 1, 2 mounted on the pipe ends and over the sleeve 10, each member 1, 2 has an internal conical face 11 for engaging a split clamping ring 9 which is of harder material than the pipe ends. The sleeve 10 has an intermediate flange 15 disposed between the pipe ends with interposed washer 16 whilst the members 1, 2 are interthreaded and enclose deformable seals 5 seated on the ends of the sleeve. Each ring 9 may be of conical section provided with a cutting edge or a serrated inner surface which bites into the respective pipe end; alternatively the ring may be of circular section.
