881,619. Hose coupling members. DUFFIELD, F. R. July 5, 1960 [July 17, 1959], No. 23545/60. Class 99(1). A hose coupling member for a hose having a reinforcement sandwiched between inner and outer flexible coverings comprises an insert 11, Fig. 1, having a first portion 25, a second portion 14 and a radial flange portion 13 which is formed to provide a seating 28 for a sealing member 29, and a spigot or socket connecting member 32. Gripping surfaces can be provided in the bore at the ferrule 23 and on the periphery of the second portion 14 which is tapered to a knife edge 20. The sealing member, e.g. an "O" ring, may be mounted, with or without an internal support 37, Fig. 5, between sloping or vertical shoulders formed in the insert and connecting members. The ferrule may be compressed by swaging or in another embodiment the ferrule is screw-threaded into the connecting member.
