Abstract

1401409 Waveguide joints SPINNER GmbH ELEKTROTECHNISCHE FABRIK 2 Aug 1973 [3 Aug 1972] 36752/73 Heading H1W A seal for insertion between a flanged corrugated waveguide and a fitting consists of two or more annular ridges connected by a diaphragm. The waveguide 10, which may be helically corrugated and of oval section, is provided with a radial flange 18 clamped between a clamping sleeve 14 and a fitting 22, e.g. a transition member. A seal 28, Fig. 3, of e,g. silicone rubber, comprises an inner ridge member 32 inserted between the end face of the sleeve 14 and the flange 18, an outer ridge member 34 inserted between the sleeve and the fitting 22, and (optionally) a further outermost ridge member 36 between the sleeve and the fitting. The outer ridges may have either circular or oval outlines. The ridges 32, 34 are shaped to provide equal axial pressure on the flange and the fitting. Holes 38 in the seal are arranged to grip the clamping bolts 24. A further seal 42 is provided by injecting a self-curing synthetic resin between the waveguide and the sleeve 14. Alternatively, a conventional seal consisting of 0-rings axially compressed by an auxiliary sleeve within the sleeve 14 may be used.
