A sealing ring of the sort which has an edge 8 which bites into the pipe 14 when compressed within a pipe-fitting 6, 15, is provided with a slightly conical surface 12 behind the cutting edge and arranged to be forced into firm abutment with the pipe when the connection is completed so that the fitting cannot be overtightened.
