Abstract

1283489 Joint-making packing; pipe joints H MUCHER [trading as HERMANN MUCHER MUCHER-RINGE] 16 July 1970 34557/70 Headings F2B and F2G A seal between a pipe end A and a connecting socket B, Fig. 3, comprises a sealing ring having a wedge-shaped zone 10, an expansion zone 11 and a fastening flange 12, the expansion zone being stretched to pull the wedge-shaped zone into clamping engagement with a conical surface provided on either an abutment ring 13 or the socket. The fastening flange 12 may also include a holding ring 16. In Fig. 4, the socket is constituted by a member 18. In Fig. 5, the conical surface is provided on a separate abutment ring C sealed to the socket B by sealing compound 23. In Fig. 8, the conical surface is provided on a socket member. In Fig. 9, the conical surface is provided on a socket member B and the fastening flange 12 is held by a slip-over clamp ring 25; the clamp ring 25 may be made in one piece as shown and used to clamp a sealing ring around each of the pipe ends A or it may be made in two parts, one for each sealing ring.
