Abstract

[Also in Divisions F2 and H2] A tubular coupling member 4 for making a leak-proof connection between two tubular members 1, 6 fits into the ends of members 1, 6 and means are provided within the members so that rotation of member 4 causes expansion of its ends to seal them against the inner surfaces of members 1, 6. The means comprises two externally tapered tubular members 3, 5 with screw-threaded portions 9, 10 of opposite progression threading within screw-threaded portions of member 4. The tapered members 3, 5 are locked against rotation by dowel pins 2 so that rotation of member 4 draws tapered members 3, 5 towards each other thus wedging the outer ends of member 4 into sealing contact with the inner surfaces of members 1, 6 and also forming a tight seal between the mating surfaces of members 3, 5 and member 4.
