Abstract

813,598. Pipe joints. SEBARDT, W. May 21, 1957 [May 22, 1956], No. 16132/57. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXV] To obtain fluid-tightness in screw-threaded pipe connections by means of a nut 10 provided with a sealing ring 15, the nut and ring are moved against a screw-threaded connection part 22 so that the ring is squeezed in a variable compression space formed by the nut and a sleeve 14 associated with the nut and simultaneously is pressed against the part 22 through an annular opening 23 formed between the sleeve and the screw-thread of the pipe 11. As shown, the nut 10 is formed with a groove 13 slidably receiving an annular portion 16 of the sleeve 14 enclosing a synthetic rubber sealing ring 15 of rectangular or round cross-section. To prevent axial separation of the nut and sleeve, the portion 16 has an annular lip 17 and the outer wall of the groove is peened over. A plate 19 is disposed between the ring 15 and the nut. In a modification, the sealing ring 28, Fig. 3, is of lead and has a head 29 disposed behind the sleeve 27; the ring may be melted.
