Abstract
769,240. Scaffold clamps. KIRK & CO., (TUBES), Ltd. and LATHAM, R. J. March 8, 1955, No. 6775/55. Class 20(2) A clamp for lock- ing two angularly disposed tubular scaffold members (1, 2), together at their point of intersection, comprises a rod-like tie member 3 shaped to provide looped portions, which can pass around a part of the circumference of both the tubular scaffold members and which is adapted at its ends to be anchored to a bridge piece 4 having a part 4b extending therefrom which will extend axially of the member against which the bridge piece is engaged, the bridge piece and its extension having a concave face 4a. Locking means are provided on one or both ends of the tie member 3 by which the bridge piece 4 and its extension 4b are pressed against the scaffold member to urge both scaffold members tightly together. As described, the bridge is formed with slots 11 each associated with a recess 8, one of which receives a head 7 on one end of the tie member and the other of which receives a washer or collar 13 fitted or formed on a locking nut 10 engaging a screw-threaded portion 9 of the other end of the tie member. In a modification the head 7 is in the form of a ball, the corresponding recess is in the form of a socket and the corresponding slot 11 is closed.
