Class 99(1) [Also in Groups X and XIV] A device for making a joint between three or more rods or tubes A ... E with their axes intersecting at a common point, for use in scaffolding, shelf supports, and furniture, comprises a clamp having opposed jaws 1 holding two rods or tubes A, B, with their axes intersecting and one or more studs 7, 12 securing further clamps having opposed jaws 10 for holding a further rods or tubes C, D or E with their axes aligned with the point of intersection of the rods or tubes A, B. The device may be made of metal or plastics and the jaws 1 are tightened on to the rods or tubes A, B, by a screwed bolt 4 passing through the jaws and having a head with an internal tool-engaging recess received in a recess in the wall of one of the jaws; a similar screw 4 draws the jaws 10 on to its associated rod or tube C, D, or E, and on to its stud 7 or 12. The end of the clamp 1 is formed with flat faces one or more of which is provided with a stud 7 or 12 for the attachment of the auxiliary clamp 10. The stud may comprise a member 7 with opposed tapered heads 8, 9, one 8 of which is clamped between the jaws 1 and the other 9 of which is clamped between jaws 10. Alternatively the stud may comprise a projection 11 on the side face of one of the jaws 1, into which projection screws a stud 12 on to which the jaws 10 are clamped. In a modification the studs 12 are formed integrally with the projections 11.
