Abstract

1,202,352. Connecting structural tubes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. 21 Aug., 1967 [19 May, 1966], No. 22387/66. Heading E1K. [Also in Division F2] The ends of tubular members having axes passing substantially through a common point and which are connected to a jointing member in a space structure, are each located by a projecting stud welded to and located by a hole in the surface of the jointing member. In the embodiments of Fig. 2 (not shown) and Fig. 1, studs 30 each located by a dowel portion 31 engaging a hole 18 in the connector 1 and welded to the connector at 32 serve to locate the ends of the tubes 20, 21, 22 which are welded either directly to the connector 1 as at 35, or as in Fig. 2 are welded to the stud. which diverges to a reduced section at which the stud is welded to the connector. In the embodiments of Fig. 3 (not shown) and Fig. 4 the stud 46 terminates at a clamping flange 50 with a frusto-conical .surface which co-operates with a clamp 55 and with a similar clamping flange on a fitting 65 adjustably screw threaded into the tube 69 or welded to the tube as in Fig. 3.
