Abstract

983,424. Furniture joints &c. P. CADOVIUS. May 5, 1961 [Feb. 14, 1961], No. 16513/61. Heading A4W. [Also in Divisions E1 and F2] A member for connecting tubes of a framework or supporting a tubular framework on a wall comprising a spigot having a reduced part 70, Fig. 14, between two parts 32, 73 over which a framework tube 71 can be engaged out of alignment with the spigot to avoid obstruction by another part of the framework, has means associated with either the inner or the outer portion of the spigot for preventing separation of the tube and the spigot. This means may comprise a spring plunger protruding from the outer part 73 into a hole in the tube or by a screw 75, Fig. 14, adapted to spread the two split parts of the end of the spigot against the tube. The outer end of the spigot may be split in three parts 80, 81, 82, Fig. 16, which are spread by a screw 87 in one of the parts. Tubes 92, 93, Fig. 18 in bores in the end of the spigot are moved out against the tube by a right and left-hand screw 94. In Fig. 4 a rubber disc 43 is secured in a groove behind the inner or outer part 42 and has a bevelled edge which jams between the part 42 and the tube. A rubber ring may be mounted in grooves in the tube and spigot. Hollow spigots 170, Fig. 10 at each end of a tube may be secured by a wire 175 inside the tube 174 passing through the pins and secured by cotters 176 the wire being strained by a screw plug 177 engaging one of the cotters. This arrangement is used in a garage framework having a cloth covering. Three to six spigots are shown mounted on support 50-53, Fig. 6, to connect tubes 54, 55 to form a framework and metal boards 57 have curved spring edges 58 which clip over the tubes and have notches 31 to accommodate the edges of other boards. The pins may be hollow and accommodate electrical wiring. Specification 932,239 is referred to.
