In a joint comprising telescoping parts (1, 2), the female portion (2) is formed with a flared entrance (3) and the male element (1) is fitted with a resilient ring (4), e.g. of rubber, which is a gripping fit, the arrangement being such that the ring (4) wedges within the flared entrance (3) and limits the extent to which the male element (1) may be inserted into the female element (2). The ring (4) may be rolled along the tube or rod (1) to provide an adjustable positioning of the ring (4). In an embodiment (Figs. 2, 3) a bracket (5) carried by a shelf supports a collar (6) forming a female element provided with a flared entrance for a rod (7) forming a leg for shelving and provided with a resilient ring for engagement in the entrance (3). A plurality of legs (7) may each support a plurality of superposed shelves.
