Abstract

1,229,192. Clamps; stud and socket fastenings. ACROW (ENGS.) Ltd. 25 April, 1968 [16 March, 1967], No. 12503/67. Heading E2B. A scaffolding clamp comprises a body portion and a single tightening means 20 or 68 for clamping the body portion to a scaffolding tube 14, the clamp including at least one scaffolding brace fixing means and at least one pin 14, 48 and 64, the or each pin being for insertion into a respective hole in the wall of the tube and being of such a length that it does not project into the interior of the tube, and the tightening means retaining the or each pin in its respective hole when the body portion is clamped to the tube. In one construction Fig. 1 the body portion is U- shaped and the tightening means is a bolt 20 which passes through a nut 22 welded to one leg 8 of the body portion the end portion of the bolt being formed as a pin which can also enter a hole in the wall of the tube. The head portion of the bolt is provided with a hole 28 for receiving a tommy bar by which it can be screwed into in engagement with the tube 14. Two of the brace fixing means are carried by the body and the pin 14 which enters the hole in the scaffolding tube is an extension of a rod 10 of one of the brace fixing means. Each brace fixing means includes a catch 34 which is received in an open ended slot in the rod 10 the catch having an elongated closed slot through which a pin 37 passes to fix it to the rod. The catch can be disposed so that its longitudinal axis is aligned with the axis of the rod to enable one or more of the braces to be positioned on the rod after which the catch can be rotated through a right angle to retain the or each brace in position. In a second construction Fig. 3 the body portion consists of two parts 42, 44 pivoted together the inner surfaces of each part being arcuate to engage the scaffolding tube; the two parts are held together around the tube by a bolt 68 which is pivoted to the part 44 and which passes through a hole 54 in the other part to be retained in place by a nut 72 which bears on a washer 58. The pin 48 which engages the hole in the scaffolding tube is carried by the part 42 and the part 44 carries two of the brace fixing means which are identical with those described for the first embodiment and one of which diametrically opposite the pin 48 has an extension 14 providing a second pin received in a second hole in the scaffolding tube. In a modification the pin 48 can be omitted.
