Abstract

609,658. Tube couplings. EVANS, G. L. March 20, 1946, No. 8578. [Class 99 (i)] Two scaffold tubes e are joined together end to end by a clamp comprising two longitudinal members a, of arcuate section (as shown) or substantially semicircular section, the ends of which are inserted into the adjacent ends of the tubes e. The members a are embraced about their middle by a collar b having a plain hole b<1> in which works a bolt c threaded into a wedge-shaped block d disposed between the members a. The clamp is tightened by rotating the bolt c drawing the wedge d into slots a<1> provided in adjacent edges of the members a and forcing these members apart to grip the tubes e. The end c<2> of the bolt c bears on the members a adjacent their edges opposite those engaged by the wedge d. The clamp is released by unscrewing the bolt c.
