Abstract

292,035. Marks, E. C. R., (Hartmann, M. & E.). Dec. 21, 1927. Jointing tubes to headers.-In an economizer having top and bottom headers n, b, provided with conical sockets c', c respectively for the reception of the tubes a, some of the tubes are adapted to act as ties a<1> by the employment of an ordinary collared screw at the top of each of these tubes and a special collared screw e at the bottom. The screw e is provided with a collar f, a conical surface g carrying an elastic ring l, and a screw portion h adapted to engage an internal thread in the tube end. The tie-tubes are first engaged with the screws e, after which all the tubes are positioned between the two headers and pressure applied to force the rings l through the sockets c and into the header where they expand and prevent withdrawal of said screws. The screws are then completely tightened up by a wrench which may be inserted through the cleaning apertures o in the upper header, after which the upper ends of the said tubes are secured by the ordinary collared screws.
