In a toggle fastening for a clamping strap having a lever 22 mounted on a ring 21 linked to one end of the strap, the end 22a of the lever which engages a projection 16 formed in the other end of the strap is provided with an abutment 18. During the initial fastening movement of the lever, the abutment 18 bears on the head of the projection 16 to prevent the end 22a of the lever from at once pressing down on to the strap at A. The clamping strap is preferably formed by two overlapping members held together by the inter engagement of hollow teeth stamped into the strap members and by an encircling retaining member.
