Abstract

899,238. Joist bridging members. MACANDREWS & FORBES Ltd. June 20, 1960 [Nov. 9, 1959], No. 21529/60. Class 20(4) A metal bridging member 10, Fig. 1, adapted to extend diagonally between joists 6, 7 comprises at its upper end, teeth 16 lying in a plane passing through the central longitudinal axis of the member and adapted to be driven into one joist adjacent its upper edge until stopped by a central tongue 15 at the upper end of the member, and at its lower end, a flat downwardly extending heel portion 24 terminating in outwardly extending teeth 22 adapted to be driven into the second joist, whereupon the lower end of the member becomes elevated relative to the second joist, from the full line position to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 5, to tightly wedge the member between the joists. Wedging of the member 10 between the joists is facilitated by sharp outwardly facing corners 21 lying in the plane passing through the central longitudinal axis at the point of attachment of the heel portion 24 to the body of the member 10.
