768,658. Photography. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 6, 1954 [May 6,1953]. No. 12679/53. Class 98(2) An arc tube 4 in a photographic printing and developing apparatus is provided with electric heating means separate from the tube for reducing the burning in period of the arc. Preferably a heating coil 11<SP>1</SP> is connected in series with the arc electrodes and the leads 11 both enter the apparatus from the same end. As shown, a jacket 13 encloses the arc tube 4 and air is passed, under pressure, over the jacket to cool the tube 4. A translucent printing cylinder 18 is rotated by belts 21, on rubber covered rollers 22 and is supported on bearings in end walls 19 and by rollers 24. In Fig. 1 (not shown) a developing apparatus is provided behind the printing cylinder in the printer cabinet and comprises two hori- . zontal rollers arranged as in a mangle, the lower one, of hard rubber, being partially immersed in a tank of developer solution and the upper one being of sponge rubber. The developer tank is fed from a reservoir, the level of the solution therein being closely controlled by means described in Specification 768,659. The developed print may be dried by air heated by the arc tube. The developer tank and the printing cylinder 18 may readily be removed from the apparatus.
