710,875. Forcing liquids by gaseous pressure. DITTO, Inc. April 25, 1951, No. 9658 / 51. Class 102 (2). [Also in Group XVI] In a moisture supply apparatus for an offset lithographic printing machine, the liquid receptacle 27, Fig. 4, comprises a fixed baffle 33 and a plurality of adjustable baffles 37, thus providing a slot in the direction of the moistening roller 4, which contacts the printing cylinder 2. Rotatable in the receptacle is. a foraminate cylindrical screen 39, and eccentrically mounted in the receptacle is a rotatable air tube 51, having a longitudinal row of perforations 52, through which air is blown towards the roller 4, the air striking liquid carried in the foraminations of the screen 39 so as to direct a spray of liquid on to the roller 4. When a feeder valve is opened to start the machine, air is also admitted under pressure to a chamber 113, whereupon an air bulb 115 is collapsed and delivers a definite amount of air to a liquid supply container 118, thus forcing out a predetermined amount of liquid through a pipe 120 into the receptacle 27. When the feeder valve is closed, the bulb 115 expands, withdraws air from the container 118, and any unused liquid, together with a volume of air equivalent to the amount used, is drawn back into the container 118 from the receptacle 27.
