Abstract
758,128. Spray-producers. AKTIESELSKABET NIRO ATOMIZER. April 6, 1954, No. 10078/54. Class 69 (3). In a method of producing dried powders by the atomization within a drying chamber of a liquid or pasty material, the atomizer comprises one or more rotary wheels 3 with vanes 12 mounted on a shaft 4 and fed with the material through one or more tubes 6: The or each tube is vibrated by an electromagnet 44 supplied with A.C. which acts upon an armature 15 secured to the tube. Alternatively, a tube of magneto-strictive material surrounds and is secured to the feed tube and a coil surrounds the outer tube and is supplied with A.C. of supersonic frequency which effects longitudinal vibration of the feed tube. In Fig. 4, a hammer type vibrator consists of a two-branch lever 22 mounted on an eccentric 23 secured to a rotary shaft 24. One end of the lever comprises a hammer 25 and the other end 26 engages a guide 27. In Fig. 5 the feed tube 6 is surrounded along a part of its length by a chamber 28 which is connected by a tube 31 to an air or water supply. Within the chamber 28 the tube is of resilient material so that by rapidly varying the air or water supply pressure the resilient tube walls are vibrated. In a further embodiment a chamber surrounds the resilient walled tube and is divided by spaced diaphragms into a series of compartments so that when liquid or air is supplied to the chamber with a periodically varying pressure a form of peristaltic movement of the tube wall takes place. In the latter embodiment liquid or air is admitted to one end of the chamber and is exhausted from the opposite end. Specification 430,139 is referred to.
