Abstract

807,080. Spray-producers. TECHNICAL CERAMICS Ltd. Feb. 27, 1957 [Feb. 28, 1956], No. 6640/57. Class 69 (3). A sprayer which is vibrated at ultrasonic frequencies consists of a transducer 11, a velocity transformer 12 secured thereto, and a nozzle 13 to which liquid is fed via a valve 16, pipe 15 and passage 14. The nozzle may be separately fabricated and fixed to the transformer ; it may be cup-shaped and fed from a supply such that liquid does not pass through the sprayer. The transducer, which is of a polarized titanate type, has the shape of a hollow cylinder and is vibrated by supplying it with electrical energy at the appropriate power and frequency; it is bonded to the transformer by a thermosetting plastic. The velocity of vibration at the nozzle end of the transformer is equal to the velocity of vibration at the transducer end multiplied by the quotient of the transformer diameter at the transducer end divided by the transformer diameter at the nozzle end.
