Abstract

1286056 Atomizers BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTE 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 21493/71 Heading B2F An atomizer comprises a periodic signals electronic generator comprising a supply voltage source and an electronic oscillator, a transducer converting signals from the oscillator to mechanical vibrations, an amplifier, a reservoir of liquid consisting of a removable cartridge and means for feeding liquid to the amplifier thereby to atomize the liquid; all disposed within a casing. In the figure, casing 1 holds generator 2, transducer 3, amplifier 4, and cartridge 5 of liquid. By means of push-button 6 an aerosol jet may be produced through opening 7. Transducer 3 is formed by two piezo-electric elements P 1 , P 2 , made of e.g. lead zirconate titanate, and two cylindrical metal components 3A, 3B, all four joined by bolt 3C. The atomizer is stated to be particularly well suited for medical purposes, for orally or nasally administering medicaments or for applying therapeutic aerosols on wounds.
