[Also in Group VIII] Pneumatic take-down mechanism is provided on a circular stocking knitting machine and comprises a tube 31 mounted within and rotatable with the needle cylinder 2. A stationary tube 30 is also provided within the cylinder 2 and is secured at its lower end to a casing 50 forming a chamber enclosing the lower end of the tube 31 and a perforated support 51 secured to the tube. The lower end of the tube 31 communicates with a second chamber 56 beneath the other chamber 50. Both chambers are connected by ducts 53, 54 with a suction fan and valves 28, 28a are inserted in the ducts to divert the flow of air through the tube 31 and between the tubes 31 and 30 in opposite directions at different times. During the knitting of the stocking the flow is such that the stocking is drawn down between the tubes 31, 30. Eventually the end of the stocking passes into the chamber 50 and is supported by the perforated support 51. On completion of the stocking the valves are adjusted so that the air flow is reversed and the stocking is drawn into the inner tube 30 and in so doing it is turned inside out. It is then discharged into the lower chamber 56 from which it is removed on the commencement of the next stocking, a door 22 controlled by the same mechanism as controls the valves, being opened to enable the stocking to be removed.
