Abstract

957,507. Knitting-machines; turning articles inside out. WOLSEY Ltd. Feb. 23, 1961 [March, 11, 1960], No. 8608/60. Heading D1C and D1X. During the manufacture of stockings, knitted material 17 is fed from the knitting machine into a space between a pair of tubes 5, 6, one within the other, to which suction is applied until the material parts from the needles when suction is applied to the inner tube and not to the space so that the material is drawn into the inner tube and at the same time turned inside out. As shown, the coaxial cylindrical tubes 5, 6 are mounted immediately beneath the knitting head 7,tube 5 being rotated at the same rate as the knitting cylinder. A port 8 in tube 6, incorporating a valve 9, and covered by a gauze 29 is connected to a source of suction. Tube 5 is connected through a plastic tube 15 receptacle 19 and valve 16 to a source of suction. Valves 9 and 16 are operated by cranks 21, 22 connected by links 23, 24 to one end of a pivoted lever 25 operated by cam 27 revolving once for each stocking knitted. A rod 26 connected to link 24 operates a trap door for releasing stockings from receptacle 19.
