Abstract

1291707 Knitting - machines HOSIERY EQUIPMENT Ltd 5 Jan 1970 [5 Feb 1969] 6127/69 Heading D1C Articles knitted in succession on a circular knitting machine and connected to one another by weak joining threads are separated by gripping the tubular fabric on either side of the joining thread and then deflecting the fabric between the gripping positions. Takedown rollers 15 are mounted on a rotary ring 13 carried on a fixed ring 12 supported by a bracket beneath a circular knitting machine. Mounted beneath the take-down, is a framework 20 with top and bottom plates 21, 22 having openings 23, 24 aligned with the vertical line of delivery of the knitted socks and with the funnel shaped inlet 26 of the discharge tube 27, 28. Air is blown into pipe 28 to create suction. A pusher head 30 has a smooth fabric engaging surface 32 and carries a V-shaped transparent plastics shield part 31. Face 32 is convex in elevation and concave in plan. Head 30 is carried on the piston rod 33 of a double-acting pneumatic cylinder 34. When head 30 is moved to operative position projections 35, 36 thereon release levers 37, 38 pivoted to plates 21, 22 which release tags 41, 42 on pivoted flaps 43, 44 and allow the latter to be moved by springs to close openings 23, 24 to grip the fabric extending therethrough while it is engaged by surface 32. The cylinder 34 is actuated, when required, by a stud on the pattern chain of the machine when the joining thread between two socks hangs in funnel 26.
