Abstract

1458987 Knitting GOTTLIEB EPPINGER 21 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 59513/73 Heading D1C A circular knitting machine for producing stockings with closed toes having a ladderproof band, includes grippers 5 for holding the toe while fibres in the closing courses are melted. The grippers 5 comprise resilient wires carried on a shaft 6 movable axially relative to the needle cylinder. The gippers are lowered as shown, while a two ply toe is knitted, and become impaled therein when the plies are twisted. When closing courses 24 are cleared from the needles, the garment is suspended from the grippers. The closing courses are heated by rotation relative to a hot air jet 23, or by several stationary jets, to melt the yarn fibres. When the grippers are raised the stocking is withdrawn by suction.
