Abstract

1277115 Knitting COURTAULDS Ltd 21 July 1969 [22 July 1968] 36540/69 Headings D1C and D1K In knitting a sleeved garment, the body portion 1 is commenced at the lower end and its top portion 6 is joined to the shoulder portions 4, 5 during knitting. The body and sleeve portions are knit up to the armpit region on a flat machine having at least one pair of opposed beds. The sleeves may be knitted on pairs of beds movable relative to the body beds. Thereafter the upper body portion is knit followed by the shoulders or vice versa, the parts being joined by stitch transfer as knitting of the later part proceeds. The shoulders are knitted by reciprocation so that pieces on the two beds are joined at the outermost edge. One shoulder portion may be knitted before the other. Alternatively the top body and shoulder portions may be knitted contemporaneously. To prevent the sleeve beds clashing as they move inwards to transfer loops their end portions may be removed, or the stitches moved inwards so that the beds can be moved outwards.
