Abstract

1,243,506. Knitting-machines. COURTAULDS Ltd. 13 Dec., 1968 [15 Dec., 1967], No. 57044/67. Headings D1C and D1K. A garment comprising a tubular portion and a further portion having at least two extensions which are, or can be joined remotely from the tubular portion to yield at least two openings is integrally knit on a two bed flat machine. The garments e.g. briefs, vest, swimsuit, or cardigan are knitted on a machine of the type disclosed in Specification 1,231,588 having two pairs of beds. The briefs shown may be commenced with tubular waist bands 1, 2 whose edges may be integrally knit or later seamed to one another. The tubular portion 3 and extensions 4, 5 follow and the latter may be seamed by knitting the final course across two beds, or one bed after transfer of stitches. The crutch may be knit with a reinforcing yarn. Additional flaps of material may be knitted after the join and seamed to the garment or alternatively the extensions may be elongated and overlapped before subsequent seaming.
