[Also in Group XVI] Apparatus for manufacturing printing master sheets has a processing bath and guides for processing a sheet therein, with a contact pressure device comprising a pair of rollers, one of which is heatable and one of which is swingably mounted, and feeding means to pass two sheets in contact between the rollers such that the sheets make contact with each other only on reaching the rollers. In the form shown, the apparatus is for the process of bringing a developed negative sheet carrying a silver halide gelatin emulsion into contact with a hectographic ink transfer sheet, and bringing the transfer sheet into contact with a printing master sheet blank. The pressure rollers are constituted by an upper roller 12, retractable under the action of a handle 11, and a lower roller 9 containing a heating resistance 8. Initially the roller 12 is retracted, the exposed negative sheet 20 laid across roller 9, and the handle 14 turned, which causes roller 9 to rotate and pass the sheet 20 under a guide 21 into a bath 22 of developer liquid in a tank 2. Meanwhile an ink transfer sheet 24 is placed, coated side down, on a feed table 4 pivotally mounted on top of the tank 2, the ends of sheets 24 and 20 being in contact. Roller 12 is swung back to press the sheets together, the heater 8 switched on, and the handle 14 turned, thus passing the two sheets in contact between the rollers, after which they are separated manually. Sheet 24 now carries the image transferred from the negative sheet 20. Sheet 24 is now placed on the lid 3 of the tank 2, and a printing master blank 27 laid on feed table 4. The two sheets are again passed between rollers 9 and 12, the image on sheet 24 being transferred to the sheet 27 which now becomes a printing master sheet.
