952, 876. Diffusion transfer photographic material. W. ZINDLER, [trading as LUMOPRINT ZINDLER KOMM.-GES.]. June 30, 1960 [July 15, 1959], No. 22903/ 60. Drawings to Specification. Heading G2C. Photosensitive material for the diffusion transfer process comprises supported positive and negative layers laminated together optionally with an intermediate developer-permeable layer to aid subsequent separation. The support for the negative layer may be a porous-soluble material and may be fabric while the positive support may be developer permeable. The intermediate layer may comprise 10g polyvinyl alcohol, 15 ml glycerine, 50 ml water, 5 ml 60% acetic acid and 20g sodium acetate. Exposure is by reflex and development may be affected by a developer fluid or by heat. The material is said to make possible the use of simpler copying apparatus than was required for known materials and apparatus is claimed comprising an exposure device, a guide surface capable of confining a developer fluid or of being heated, means for separating the material from the original being copied after exposure and for directing the exposed sheet on to the guide surface, and a receiving station for separating positive and negative sheets after exposure such apparatus being characterised by the absence of means for (a) introducing a separate image-receiving sheet (b) introducing a backing layer to the sheet after development or (c) applying pressure to two separate sheets to bring them into diffusion transfer relationship prior to being developed.
