Abstract

1,179,769. Photographic process. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 2, 1967 [March 2, 1966], No.9979/67. Heading G2C. Photographic reproduction process comprises treating a layer of image-bearing proteinaceous colloid with aqueous enzyme solution which degrades the protein at the layer surface, contacting the surface with a receptor and separating the layer and the support, whereby a stratum of imagebearing degraded colloid is transferred to the receptor. The colloid is preferably gelatine which is either unhardened or treated with a softening agent (e.g. citric acid, urea or KCNS) before and/or during degradation. The image is preferably a silver image produced by developing an exposed silver halide layer or by the silver salt diffusion process, or a dye image produced by developing an exposed reversal colour film or by the dye transfer process. Multiple copies may be made by successively transferring strata to a plurality of receptor sheets, or by superposing a plurality of porous paper receptor sheets on the surface during degradation; colour separation images may be obtained from colour reversal films by the first of these processes. When the colloid layer comprises a tanned silver image the unhardened colloid may be selectively degraded and transferred. The enzyme may be applied separately or in admixture with other processing solutions.
