Abstract

654,631. Photographic material and processes. GEVAERT PHOTO - PRODUCTEN N.V. Sept. 4, 1946, No. 26570. Convention date, March 20, 1941. [Class 98 (ii)] Photographic material comprises at least two layers, one a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and the other a receiving layer containing development nuclei or a substance capable of producing such nuclei. After processing, the emulsion layer is removed by melting, stripping, or chemical treatment, leaving a reversed image in the receiving layer. The substance incorporated in the receiving layer may be colloidal silver or silver nuclei, other colloidal metals, silver sulphide, sulphur, phosphorus, or sodium thiosulphate, and may be precipitated therein. A barrier layer, which may also serve as a stripping layer, may be disposed between the emulsion and receiving layers. The substance causing diffusion may be incorporated in the support. The barrier layer binder may be a hydrophilic colloid such as starch or methyl cellulose or a vary thin layer of hydrophilic colloid (e.g. nitrocellulose) which may be coated so as to dry porous. The emulsion may be untanned or contain additions such as ammonium carbonate or potassium thiocyanate preventing hardening. The emul. sion layer containing the negative image may be transferred to a glass support during stripping so that it may serve as a negative. In example 1, paper is coated with a composition containing gelatine, silver nitrate, and formaldehyde, and after thorough drying an untanned silver halide emulsion is coated thereon. A colour film diapositive may be printed on to the material, which is then developed in a developer containing hypo, squeegeed on to a glass plate, the emulsion layer washed off in warm water, and the transferred positive print toned in a selenium toning bath. In example 2, paper is coated with a composition containing gelatine, sodium sulphide, and silver nitrate, then with a gelatine-starch composition, and then with a contrasty silver halide emulsion. The procedure is as in example 1. Specifications 614,155 and 654,630 are referred to.
